Manual owned-domain review

Decide what the next renewal needs to justify—not what you already spent.

An owned domain needs a continuation review, not another acquisition-price calculation. Copy this blank worksheet to revisit your original reason for holding it, identify what changed, and record your own next action before the renewal deadline. This is educational guidance, not investment advice or an automated renewal service.

01

First separate business-use domains from resale inventory

An operating website, email address, redirect, account-recovery address, or defensive brand registration is not simply an unsold investment. List the services and people that depend on the exact name before considering any lapse. A low appraisal or no inquiries does not measure the disruption of losing a business-use domain. Escalate operational or legal dependencies to the responsible owner rather than applying an investor resale rule.

Confirm registrar access, who controls renewal, the exact expiry shown in the account, auto-renew status, billing readiness, and the registrar's applicable deadlines. Set your own review deadline early enough to resolve unknowns. Do not rely on a generic grace period or assume a failed renewal can be reversed. This page does not inspect your account, monitor expiry, cancel auto-renew, or execute a renew/drop decision.

02

Revisit the original thesis using evidence you can retrace

Write the dated reason you acquired or retained the domain before looking at a new appraisal. Was it a particular use case, a language/extension fit, observed end-user activity, or someone else's opinion? Ask whether you would choose to acquire it today if you did not already own it. That counterfactual helps expose attachment; it is not a command to sell or drop, and it does not override service dependencies.

Separate evidence added since the last review from the same old evidence repeated. Keep an actual inquiry distinct from a plausible buyer category, a marketplace view, a compliment, and an investor bid. Record which sales sources, time windows and relevant name differences you checked. Zero inquiries or no public sales does not prove zero demand: exposure, reporting and source coverage can be incomplete. Unknown is not zero. Do not invent a sale probability to close the gap.

03

Compare next-period commitments, not a sunk-cost recovery target

Past spend is sunk for this forward review: retain the purchase and paid-renewal ledger for records, but do not treat spending another renewal as a way to make that history valuable. Obtain the exact-name next-renewal quote, currency, term, source and checked date. A first-year promotion or standard extension rate does not verify a premium name's future charge. Keep unknown quotes unresolved rather than entering zero.

List only the future commitments required by the continuation you are considering, with optional services separate. Compare the time and budget this name would occupy with your own alternatives, including doing more research or committing no new resale budget. Keep possible selling fees conditional on an actual sale; an appraisal minus renewal costs is not expected profit. Do not infer a minimum sale price, liquidity, or time to sale from the amount you need to recover.

Keep historical purchase and holding expenses in the separate acquisition-cost ledger
04

Copy a blank next-renewal decision note

Copy these fields into your private document and fill them from your own evidence. Nothing is imported, calculated or saved by this page. Use one note per domain and retain the previous review so you can see what actually changed; do not backfill an original thesis from today's preferred outcome. Keep account credentials, customer messages and unpublished candidates out of public comments or shared screenshots.

Renew, research before the deadline, and drop are possible investor-selected outcomes, not recommendations generated by this worksheet. If choosing research, name the unresolved question, who will check it, and when you will make the final decision; research alone does not pause an expiry or a charge. If considering drop, verify the dependency review and registrar controls first. A written note does not itself change registration status.

Use an appraisal as a separate input, then close the review

A new estimate can help frame a value question but cannot decide whether this domain still fits your purpose or budget. Preserve the estimate's date, value definition, available evidence and limitations. Do not turn confidence into a yearly sale probability or treat unavailable sales as a clean bill of health. The value-evidence guide covers those distinctions without repeating this renewal decision process.

Finish with a dated rationale and the next action you control, not a forecast. Review again when material evidence changes or at your own next deadline. SparkNamer's separate Beta appraisal is optional and does not populate this worksheet, verify registrar charges, assess operational dependencies, or select names to renew. There is no portfolio import or automated renewal/drop service on this page.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I renew a domain with no inquiries?

No inquiries alone cannot answer that. Review your purpose, exposure and evidence gaps, the next-period commitment, alternatives, and operational dependencies. The decision remains yours; this guide sets no automatic renew/drop threshold.

Can an appraisal decide whether to renew?

No. An estimate is a separate screening reference, not a buyer offer, a sale probability, or a renewal recommendation. It cannot measure every service dependency or your own budget priorities.

Does this worksheet renew or drop my domains?

No. It is a blank manual educational note, not a calculator, portfolio importer, expiry monitor or renewal service. Verify deadlines and any registration action directly with your registrar.
